Rain pouring down outside my window reminds me of being inside a lighted classroom, its dark window panes suddenly turned into mirrors. The teacher and students reflected in those mirrors seemed different somehow, odd, not really us.
Art is that darkened window pane as it reflects our human condition back to us, mirrors our actions. Another term for mirror is “looking glass” which implies a means of examining, seeing clearly perhaps.
I always think of my paintings as “windows” which is the Renaissance perspective on the world, but I pull my viewer right up to the window’s surface and ask them to look. Is that really us?

“With one year of pursuing my masters under my belt, I find myself far removed from a cohesive body of work for this show. My education is encouraging me to look in numerous directions in my practice and I am taking full advantage of the encouragement. I do find, however, that I can still rely on my 'found' subjects and this show does just that: exhibits some of my more recent finds.” Come see the work of this award-winning photographer!
Opening reception on First Friday from 4:00-8:30 PM at STUDIO 831 located at 831 North Kansas Avenue.
These are just a few things that I do during the month! As you can see, I keep very busy and I live in Topeka! You make the city you live in as awesome as you want! Don't overlook all the fun things we have to offer and how close tons of other things are to Topeka!
Robin & Kim out on the town - I really don't like going to bars all the time but this night we went to check out Boulevard Billards. Now to find a friend who will play pool with me!! Next we went to Happy Basset. I was on antibiotics so it was water for me!!
Going out with Kristie and Craig - We had to reschedule this night out due to the fact that Craig surprised Kristie with a trip to New York for her Birthday! How sweet was that. So our night started out with Dinner and then a few bars that they like to hang out at! It was a fun night. We sat on their back deck until 3 am. The next morning Kristie made breakfast and we watched a moive. Then I headed home! It was a fun night!!
New Hockey Management renames hockey team - It wasn't an wasy decision but I believe it was the right decision! The Topeka Hockey team needed a new breath of fresh air! New ownership, name, logo and energy is what Topeka needed!
Topeka Pilot Logo Reveal - First they announced their new name and now they revealed their new logo! Topeka is lucky to have such a fun sport to attend at the Expo center! Now to get people to start going back to the games!!
Meetings- I have tons of them!!
Partners in Excellence, If you want to join a networking meeting, this is a fun one!! Every Wednesday, 9:30 am at Lawyers Title!
AWE- We discussed stress relief! Owning your own business, you encounter stress here and there!!
ING Meeting - A full crowd at AJ's for this meeting!

Topeka Growth - This is a referral group. Only one person from each industry can become a member. They are still looking for more members!! It is a fun group at 9 am every Tuesday in the Giant Communication Board Room Downtown!
Supper Club: I started doing supper club about 8 years ago so I could hang out with all the cool people that I spend hours a day in meeting discussing business with. Supper Club however is not a business thing. I felt it was time to bring it back. Our first dinner was at North Star!
Slash N Bash Film Festival - This year the big event is in Lawrence at Liberty Hall and will include famous actors, directors and others!! You don't want to miss this weekend of films! Aug 17 and 18th!
Social Butterflies first give away - Over 3500 views of our video where we were giving away two tickets to join us for the Murder Mystery Dinner theatre at North Star! After a week we drew a name and Sarah won! It was a fun night!!
Tourism Alliance - We need to work on this! Tourism needs a lot of help in our city! We aren't seeing as many group coming to our city and I personally blame Visit Topeka! They have spent way too much time concentrating on organizing events for people who live here and not going out and trying to get people to visit. This is my personal opinion but I am not alone! I hope something changes with this Topeka Partnership idea! I have worked with Visit Topeka very closely in the past and now, they won't even make eye contact with me. Very mature for people who are paid to promote our city!
KC Royals Game - My first game of the season! Tom and I went with Robin and Steve. We partied it up in the parking lot and after the game we introduced Robin and Steve to Jerry's Bait Shop! We grabbed dinner at Grinders then back to Jerry's! Long but fun day!!
Topeka Youth Projects Golf Tourney- This is always a fun time! We need to work on getting more teams! They are missing out! Big thanks to VIllage Greens for being such a great host!!
Movie day with Toni in KC -We planned on laying out by her pool but the weather had different plans! We watched TAG! Pretty cute movie!!
Back to Heartland Motorsports Park - How do I get myself into these things. I must love my friends A LOT!! Teri asked if I could help with the suites during the taping of a tv show on Discovery Channel. I catered the crew! Most of them were pretty awesome! It can't be easy going from track to track recording a tv show! I did meet the announcer for the show! He was pretty excited to meet a fellow famous person!! LOL
Talk About Topeka LIVE Returns to TPAC - New location, New format but still the same annoying host. HAHA!! This has to be one of my brother's best ideas ever! Frank is really the one who needs a pat on the back with all the technology he has brought to this amazing show!!

Not everything I do involves drawing. One hobby I became interested in at a very young age was sewing. My mom could sew a button but not much more. My grandma however use to make a lot of my mom's clothes and tons of square dance dresses. I had been given an old sewing maching in middle school and had tried to find classes to show me how to sew. I then ventured to the internet and decided to learn on my own. Sewing came easy to me. The main reason I wanted to learn to sew was to make costumes. My friends and I, loved going to Anime conventions and I wanted to experience the entire convention as it was planned, this would include a costume. My costumes have included, Kim Possible, Rogue, and this year young Elastigirl from The Incredibles. My entire costume is hand made. I even permed and combined two wigs to make the Rogue hair.
This website is a prototype for an idea that I have been working on for ten years! It is continually changing and I hope to make this the main site for anyone that wants to find something in Topeka to use.
It is being built with those who live in Topeka and the surrounding area but not limited to them.
There are 4 sections to this website.
The Topeka Newsletter is the first part. It is going through some major overhaul since most of the information can now be found in a better organized manner on the website. This is free for any locally owned business to use to promote their business.
The Community Calendar is actually the most important part of this website, right now. Each community should be informed on what is going on. This doesn't just mean the bar scene. When I say informed, I mean fundraisers, sports, daily food and drink specials, sales, entertainment, recreation and anything else going on. This calendar tries to include anything that the public is invited to. There is no charge to include your events. We enter all the events so it saves business owners time. They just need to send us the information and we will take it from there.
Everything Topeka is a plethora of information compiled in a map based program. Here you can search and find different venues in different categories. You can pick one or all categories to search. This search will not find information that is not on the map though so you will need to use the website search function also. It is free to be listed with a simple profile and an affordable way to enhance your listing.
Everything Else is more businesses that are not listed in the Map feature. There is a guide page that actually will lead you in the right direction. http://everythingtopeka.com/everything-topeka/all-categories It is free to be listed with a simple profile and an affordable way to enhance your listing.
We have 2 different search bars. We use a program called Hot Spot and it does not integrate with the rest of the website at this time. So you will need to use both places if you can't find what you are looking for. Search Articles option will search everything but the maps. It even includes the calendar.
Remember event dates and times can change. Check out their website or give them a call before making plans!
