View from my Studio

View from my Studio 10
Air bearing a new coolness and dry leaves signals a season change. October is nearly here with crisp mornings and fresh energy. The light coming through my window has a different quality from that of the summer months. New projects await my attention.
But one painting sits stubbornly on my easel, the last of the unfinished group that I had hoped to complete long before now. Twice I’ve wiped out part of the sky, dithering over its color and value. The painting is one of the “Ship of Fools” series, so figures sit and stand in boats. Men, women and children are on an eternal disembarkation from a ship in the background; their facial expressions and body language indicate apprehension. However, they are also acquiring a bit of impatience. They are eager to be on their way and I am eager to send them! If only I could finalize the sky. Perhaps a glance out my studio window will give me an idea.
