View from my Studio
By Barbara Waterman-Peters
The Topeka Art & Antiques Fair on June 24th kicks off a summer of fun and excitement in NOTO! Instead of looking out of my studio window, I will be in the information booth on the street! I look forward to visiting with folks who come by. And I hope participants in the NOTO Plein Air Project will take advantage of the opportunity to take photos, do sketches for paintings, write poems, stories, or plays, to compose music or dances while strolling around the district at the fair!
But it’s back to my easel in July as I have shows and commissions to fulfill. Right now about 12 canvases sit around my space in various stages of completion. Most of them are part of my new “Ship of Fools” series. I have actually had people ask to be models for the occupants of the ships! It seems being included in one of my paintings is a feather in one’s cap! Ah, now there is an image: caps with feathers. I never know where or when the next inspiration will come to me, but I like to be open to its arrival!
We always look forward to the arrival of lots of folks in NOTO!
