2016 - October

ttn logoOctober, 2016: Welcome to my latest adventure!

Kim Schultz

As September ends, so does my life in the 40's. I have been blessed with so many amazing things in the first half of my life. (Assuming I live until I am 100.)  They say age is just a number but reality is, our bodies are always changing and it seems like the changes happen for frequently and are bigger the older we get. The other day someone guessed my age at 32 and 38 so that I am thankful for good genetics. I don't want to age with anything but excitement and a positive attitude. Every morning I wake up thankful to be given another day! Life is good!

Kim's Excellent Adventures

Building A Business:  Well, I actually had a big corporation show a little bit of interest.  They asked for more information and a proposal. They, however did not want to help at this time. Although it was another no, I was excited that they actually asked for more information. I know that it will take just one, corporate or larger company to help start finding the funding but who will that be? Most of them won't even find the time to meet. I will not let this deter me, I will keep asking and eventually will find a corporation that sees the benefit of  Not only for the community but for the businesses who can't afford a huge marketing budget but work just as hard as a company that can!

Massage by Suzi: Due to my business October schedule, I fit in my massage at the end of September.  What a great way to go into my birthday month!

Vacation in Atlanta - Since my friends in Atlanta moved to Dallas I had to find a new place to stay while visiting my friends in Atlanta.  This wasn't hard for my friends there were excited for me to visit.  I am lucky that I get to travel so much and have a place to stay while there.  Lodging is a huge expense that I rarely have to pay for.  My Southwest Credit Card helps me fly for Free.  So these two things allow me to travel without spending too much money!

I met new friends while hanging out with my friend Randy! We went out for dinner and drink and then next door to another bar to watch RuPaul's Drag Race and later that evening a drag show.  It was a good time!

The rest of the time I stayed with Rob and Daman.  We visited the Botanical garden where they had a Chihuly outside exhibit. I had no clue what this was. It was amazing. Hand blown glass sculptures set amongst the Garden's natural beauty.

We also visited the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. This attraction opened in 2014. This was a somber two hours. This museum is dedicated to the achievements of both the civil rights movement in the United States and the broader worldwide human rights movement.  One floor was dedicated to Martin Luther King, Jr. It started at the beginning of his fight and ends with his death. There is a wall of mug shots of The Freedom Riders. I really wish I would have paid  more attention to history when I was in school. Watching people fight for others was exciting. Thinking about today and how we are slipping back into bad habits, is sad to me!

My favorite place to eat in Georgia is, Mathew's Cafeteria! They have the best creamed corn in the world! This time we went and I told the lady behind the counter that I come from Kansas just to get their creamed corn.  She asked me to come back to the line after I was finished eating.  I went back to tell her how awesome my meal was and she filled a big container with creamed corn and wished me a safe trip home.  I was in heaven!  We ate that corn with our burgers, Sunday night! Creamed corn twice in one trip, AMAZING!!!

This trip also included my first solo MARTA ride and my first Uber ride! Both were pretty exciting.

Chiefs Game: Football season is here! I am still lucky to get to go to a few games each season. This year, Frankie and I went with our friends Tom and Tammy to the final pre-season game. Tom is a Packers fan, but we still let him sit with us.  The Chiefs beat the Packers!

The season opener was on 9/11 and we met up with my friend William and his wife Cheryl from Atlanta.  We also hung out with our tailgating group! They are all the nicest people! This game started out bad. The Chief's didn't show up until after half time and then they kicked some butt.  Some of the fans had already left. Charger fans had also left because they thought they had the game in the bag.  They were all incorrect. The Chiefs pulled off a win in the 4th quarter!  It was awesome!  Never leave a Kansas City team game early!

Memorial Day Weekend: Another holiday weekend where I didn't have to dog sit.  This  makes for a fun time!  I planned on spending the weekend with Frankie in Kansas City.  We went to the Chiefs game on Thursday.  Friday we went to see a movie, War Dogs.  I really liked the movie.  After the movie we went to Johnny's Tavern for drinks and dinner. I ate their Wilson Wings and loved them.  I am not a wing eater but those are really good! Frankie started feeling under the weather that night and woke up Saturday with a sore throat. This changed my plans.  I got in my walk and then went to hang out with my friend Tom. We did some errand and then grabbed dinner. We went to Jerry's Bait shop to watch the Royals game.  Here is where we met up with my friends from Topeka and after the game, we went to the Red Balloon and Ugly Joe's. This was one of those nights where you start with no plans and end with so much fun! Sunday was a recuperation day. We stayed out way too  late. Monday, Tom and I went to his gym and then to the park to walk about 5 miles. I get to have fun as long as I get in my workout!

Asthma and Allergies: I have not had this much trouble breathing in years!!  My 2 months of cough finally took me to the doctor.  I am still not 100%. I am so tired of coughing!

Visiting Fairlawn Plaza-  I hope to get out of the house once a week, but this month, I only made it to one. I did make it to all the stores in Fairlawn. I always forget how many awesome stores are in there!  FYI, Kitchen Gallery is not back open under new ownership.  You really need to stop by.

Girls Night out-  I tagged along with my friend Robing while she and her friends went bowling!  Then we went to the 20's and drank a beer and caught up on stuff.  It was a relaxing night out!

Proud Mother:  Chelsea is a very talented person.  She did not get much of it from me!  This month she attended TopCon in Topeka and made her own costume.  Every part of it was hand made.  She even took 2 wigs apart and combined them and permed the longer one with boiling water.  She won First place in The Adult category. She was also asked to shoot a commercial for the Lawrence Comicon in her outfit.

Here is my daughter's commerical she was in:

Here is a video where they interview her about her costume and the character she was dressed as:

This website is a prototype for an idea that I have been working on for ten years! It is continually changing and I hope to make this the main site for anyone that wants to find something in Topeka to use.

It is being built with those who live in Topeka and the surrounding area but not limited to them.

There are 4 sections to this website.

1. The Topeka Newsletter is the first part.  It is going through some major overhaul since most of the information can now be found in a better organized manner on the website.  This is free for any locally owned business to use to promote their business.

2. The Community Calendar is actually the most important part of this website, right now.  Each community should be informed on what is going on. This doesn't just mean the bar scene. When I say informed, I mean fundraisers, sports, daily food and drink specials, sales, entertainment, recreation and anything else going on.  This calendar tries to include anything that the public is invited to. There is no charge to include your events.  We enter all the events so it saves business owners time. They just need to send us the information and we will take it from there.

3. Everything Topeka is a plethora of information compiled in a map based program.  Here you can search and find different venues in different categories. You can pick one or all categories to search. This search will not find information that is not on the map though so you will need to use the website search function also. It is free to be listed with a simple profile and an affordable way to enhance your listing.

4. Everything Else is more businesses that are not listed in the Map feature. There is a guide page that actually will lead you in the right direction.  It is free to be listed with a simple profile and an affordable way to enhance your listing.

We have 2 different search bars.  We use a program called Hot Spot and it does not integrate with the rest of the website at this time.  So you will need to use both places if you can't find what you are looking for.  Search Articles option will search everything but the maps. It even includes the calendar.
