2016 - June

ttn logoJune 2016: Welcome to my latest adventure!

Kim Schultz

Great things are happening on the new website.  This means that The Topeka Newsletter is going to make some changes.  We have added a community calendar that has EVERYthing that is going on listed. (Everything that we can find or know about.) We plan on making sure that our calendar is the one place you can go to find anything that is going on.  We will focus more time on entering events and working with venues to list their events earlier.  As our staff grows, you will notice that our site will grow!  Please check back often to see all the changes that we are making! We want to make sure that we have EVERYthing! Welcome to June! Good things are happening!!

Kim's Excellent Adventures

Building A Business: This is not an easy task!  Starting from the very bottom and developing a new business is very tedious! You continually have to redo things. The cool thing about it is that you get to redo things and make it look like you want! EverythingTopeka.com has endless possibilities.  My next step is to find community financial support for the website so I can hire more people to help grow the website!

Time with Kolton: This is always a fun time.  This month Kolton and I grabbed some lunch at Tortilla Jacks and then went to my friend's son's birthday party! He is such a great kid!! I can't believe he will be 6 in July! Just doesn't seem possible!

Tortilla Jacks 1 Tortilla Jacks 2 Birthday 1 Birthday 2

Trip to Dallas: My after the tax season trip was a little later this year.  James and Robert moved from Atlanta to Dallas so this year's trip was new and exciting!  I spend 6 days hanging out with these 2 guys! We found new locally owned restaurants to eat at, we spent the evening at a spa, visited the Book Depository Kennedy Museum and hung out by the pool.  It was a perfect relaxing getaway! I also found amazing Cheesecake at a little walk up to stand called Val's Cheesecake!  I can't wait to go back!!

Royals Game: Game #2 for the season.  I went with my friends Ryan, Tammy and Mark! It was a rainy day out, but it stopped raining by the time we got to the ballpark.  Ryan had grabbed a platter of food from Famous Daves! We tailgated for a bit.  The weather was a bit chilly and windy but the Royals won so that was awesome.  After the game, I went to Hollywood Casino.  I met my friend Mike there for a drink and a little winning!  My lucky numbers came up and I won $160.  It was a late night, but totally worth it!

Royals 1 Royals 2 Royals 3 Royals 4 Royals 5

Creatively BOLD Enterprises, LLC: I will be contacting all the restaurants in Topeka to get their business profiles updated so the site will be even more of a resource.  I will also be contacting a few corporate businesses to see if they want to help grow the site!! If you work with a company that would like to help make this site more awesome, please contact me!  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Graduations: May is graduation season!  My friend Kiesha graduated from Washburn University with 2 bachelor degrees and my friend's Teri and Jeff Engroff's son Carson, graduated from Hayden.  I was excited that I could attend both graduation parties!  I was unable to attend the parties that were out of town, but I am still just as proud of Jordan Schmitt in Towanda, KS!

Let's Help: Last month I put in my notice that I would no longer be able to work at Let's Help.  I plan on staying to help but I believe they need someone there that can work more than one day a week.  So if you are fluent in Quickbooks and familiar with nonprofit accounting, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  I hate leaving, but I believe my website will end up taking more time and I don't want to leave them out in the cold!

Hypnosis Show: This was a fundraiser for the Chick Whips Jr Roller Derby girls.  My friend Kelly's dad came in from Florida to put on the show!  It was awesome!  Out of the 12 that volunteered to be hypnotized, only a couple didn't go under!  I first was introduced to these types of shows when I worked for Tucker's Bar and Grill and they brought in Doug MacGraw. When this comes back to Topeka, you need to attend!

Hypnosis 1 Hypnosis 2 Hypnosis 3

Meetings: I hope this part is full next month!!

Dentist 1Dentist: Most people dread going to the dentist.  I drive over an hour to see mine!  There are plenty of great dentists in Topeka but my friend Dr. Anthony (Tony) Marengo practices in Lenexa.  He has been married to my best friend since 7th grade, Toni and I use this trip to get to hang out with them.  This time, Tony had to go out of town so Dr. Sylvester did the exam. You can't go wrong with either of them!

Shopping KC ChelseaShopping Day in KC - After my dentist appointment and lunch with Toni, Chelsea and I headed out to buy me some new dress pants.  I had donated all my older and too big pants in the winter to Let's Help! It was a very productive day!  I found 6 pairs of pants and 5 shirts for around $260.  We then ended our day with dinner and stopped on the turnpike for donuts.  I do not like shopping but when I can find clothes that fit and are on sale, it's a good day! Side note.  I bought 6 pairs of pants.  I am the same size every time I put on a pair pants, but because of the section or the store I bought them in they were all different sizes. They ranged from size 4 to size 7 (juniors).  Regardless, we can't let a number get in the way of selecting comfy clothes!  Nothing is made the same!!

Start of Summer Toes:  New ToesAlex out did himself this time at Nail World!! I finally got my super fun toes back!  Bring on summer!!

WalkingWalking and working out: One thing I didn't do as much last year was walking outside.  This year after the completion of the 37th street project, they put in sidewalks so I can now get to Burlingame safely!  The walk is close to 6 miles and it's awesome!  You go uphill both ways!  Yes, You go up hill going east on 37th street and then up hill going west on 29th. So when your parents said they walked to school in 6 feet of snow, barefooted uphill both ways, they might not have been lying! I am so proud of Chelsea for joining in with my workouts! We see quite a few deceased critters, but one day we found a baby bunny!

 Memorial Day 1

Girls Weekend in KC for Memorial Day Weekend: Day 1 I was supposed to dog sit this weekend, but due to all the rain, Tony & Toni decided to stay home so my stay was moved to my friend Frankie's house.  When I got to Frankie's I went for a 5 mile walk.  Workouts can't be ignored, especially when you plan on eating out and drinking! Our first stop was at the Sprint Center for the Zach Brown Band concert, Friday night.  Frankie was given tickets the week before when we were at Hollywood Casino! They were Founder Club seats.  This was my 2nd time to the Sprint center. The Founders club has a special entrance, bars, food and TVs to watch the Royals play during intermission. The concert was awesome!  For their encore they made everything purple and sang Let's Go Crazy by Prince as sort of a dedication to him.  I got goose bumps and my eyes were watery.  Prince and Robin Williams had to be the two deaths, of people I had never met, I am the saddest about. Then we went over to Power and Light to say hi to our Friend Dan, who was DJing at PBR. We made it over there right before the next downpour! We didn't stay very long.Memorial Day 2

Day 2 Saturday, I got up and walked 6.22 miles and then we hung out until JJ got into town. Panzons was our choice for lunch and margaritas. After that we put on our swim suits and went to the pool to nap! Then we all got dolled up and headed out for dinner and Dancing at Whiskey Tango.  I had a headache from either the margaritas or all the sun I had taken in.  It could have been a combination of both.  Luckily, the headache went away by the time we reached the bar. The crowd was small due to the holiday weekend. They didn't really play good music either.  The thing I hated though, was that MISSOURI still allows you to smoke in bars.  They are one of the 16 states that still owe smoking in a public place.  So while Kansans go to Missouri to save money on sales tax, I am pretty sure people that don't enjoy smelling like an ash tray, come to Kansas to party without gross smoke!

Day 3 Sunday was our lazy day. We went to Pegah's to eat breakfast/lunch, then off to the pool for the rest of the day.  It was so nice to have 4 hours of constant sun! This rain needs to stop!! Continuing the lazy day, we went to see, Money Monster at Fork and Screen. This is a really good movie that makes you think!

Memorial Day 3   Memorial Day 5

Day 4  JJ and walked 6.5 miles! We then went out for lunch and spent some time at Hollywood Casino! Not to brag but later that evening, Chelsea and I went to Dillons and picked up the groceries for the week.  Girls weekend was officially over and back to reality!

Many people take their friends and life for granite. I however, do not.  I know that I am blessed to have so many amazing people in my life. We all go through hard times, but we all don't have friends to help us through those times. I know that I can survive anything with the friends I have. My friends also know that I am always there for them. We are not perfect and those imperfections make us who we are. Hard times happen to everyone, but we need to spend a little time with those and concentrate on all the great things we have. This weekend was a much needed weekend to get recharged! Watch out because I am about to do more awesome things!!
