2016 - July

ttn logoJuly, 2016: Welcome to my latest adventure!

Kim Schultz

June was crazy busy! I worked really hard trying to fill EverythingTopeka.com with more fun and informative information! I also was lucky to find a few volunteers to help me!  I hope that after all this work, Topeka finds my new website informative and will support it. This type of site is going to require a lot of work to maintain!

I am pretty excited that our gloomy rainy days are minimal and the sun is out! Now to find more time to spend by the water! If only I could see my lap top screen outside by the pool! That would be awesome!!

Kim's Excellent Adventures

First SupporterBuilding A Business: Business Applications are now coming in! I have had some meetings and still working on how this entire website will function!  I did get my first supporter contribution this month! That was exciting!  Now to find corporate supporters who believe our community needs this resource!

Girls night Out: My friends from high school and I decided that we would get together a few times a year to hang out! This time Susan hosted. Margaritas, pizza and a fire in the fireplace outside on the deck was what this night included. I am so lucky to still have such a great relationship with women I met when I was 12!!

Chillin by the fire: I have had a fire pit for years and have used it a few times! I decided that when my friend JJ came to visit, we would just hang out by the fire. It is so nice to just hang out at home and spend time with friends around the fire! We first went to Westridge Mall to meet one of JJ's friends who was in town to put on a concert at Gage Amphitheater. She went to school with Roger Ortega and she was in town to go to his concert.

Germanfest 2016: This was a very busy weekend! I always enjoy Germanfest! I love the food!  You never know who you will run into!

Germanfest 1  Germanfest 2  Germanfest 3  Germanfest 4 Double Photobomb!!

Royals Game: Game #3 Another last minute plan! We were going to go to Lake Perry on the boat but Ryan invited us to a Royals game.  JJ picked Royals game! We made it early enough to get a bobble head! The weather was perfect!!  We lost but it was still a good time!

Royals 1 Royals 2 Royals 3 Royals 4

Burger Stand: I met my friend Patricia for dinner! I have always eaten a hamburger but tonight I felt like trying something different! I picked the homemade corn dog and cheese fries!  YUMMY!  Add my teacher 1/2 price discount on Wednesdays and double bonus!!

Burger Stand 1  Burger Stand 2

Let's Help: A couple months ago I put in my notice that I would no longer be able to work at Let's Help.  I plan on staying to help but I believe they need someone there that can work more than one day a week.  So if you are fluent in Quickbooks and familiar with nonprofit accounting, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  I hate leaving, but I believe my website will end up taking more time and I don't want to leave them out in the cold!

Downtown Pocket Park Dedication: This one is very special since it is right outside our restaurants! The heat was on but the tent and breeze helped keep the hundreds of people in attendance from over heating.  Downtown is really starting to take shape!  If you haven't been down yet, you need to visit.  Now we will start seeing NEW businesses open and life being revived in Downtown! It won't be long until we see good energy and tons of people bustling along the new wider sidewalks! Have faith, our downtown is about to come alive!!

Meetings: I had some great meetings this month!  I met with the Topeka Chamber of Commerce to let them know what I had going on.  I also met with a few businesses who believe this website is necessary and will be a great asset to our community!

Schmitz Family Reunion: Our last reunion was 10 years ago! The Schmitz family is quite large. June 19th would have been my grandpa Saps 100th birthday! My aunts wanted to celebrate, so they decided to have a family reunion and birthday celebration! They put over 18 months of work into putting this event together.  Saturday night, we met at my aunt Cecilia's for dinner and to meet about the game plan for the next day! Plus we were able to talk with our immediate family more.  Sunday was the big day.  We woke up and went to the American Legion hall in Seneca, KS to decorate and set up for the day. We had about 400 family members in attendance.  John and Mary Schmitz were my great grandparents. Kolton 1

Time with Kolton-  I can't go a month without spending time with my little buddy! I can't believe that he will turn 6 years old next month!  I met this little awesome person when he was only 2 and he just keeps amazing me everytime I see him!

RLI Meeting:  I was asked to speak at one of their weekly meeting.  I talked about EverythingTopeka.com!  I wish I had more time to do more meetings and visit with people!!  One day I will!

Topeka Youth Project's Golf Tourney: This has to be one of the best golf tournaments in Topeka! This year was another great event.  After registration, Dreux and I drove around on the golf cart and took pictures for George and then delivered water bottles to players.  I usually get to deliver beer but this year I was given water.  hmmmm I wonder if Dreux going with me had something to do with that decision. HAHA Kidding! The weather was perfect and all the players said they had a great time!

Topeka Civic Theatre and Dinner We started out at Monsoon Express for a delicious meal!  Then Jim and I went to Comic Potential.  It was a cute show.  I really enjoyed the evening!

Midwest Boat Party @ Lake Perry If you know me, you know that I love going to the pool or lake.  When it is hot, water is required for me to be sitting, laying or playing in.  This month, Lake Perry had their annual Midwest Boat party.  Hundreds of boats gathered in Party Cove. My friends, Tim & Cindy, invited me to join them on their boat.  My friends Marlee and Greg also joined us! It was a great day on the lake.

Boy Scouts My friend Ed Eller is very involved with the Boy Scouts.  I met with him to talk about how we can get more elementary kids involved in the scouts.  My daughter did Campfire through elementary school and I really enjoyed getting to spend the time with her, earning badges.  I was shocked at all the cool things the Scouts now offer.  If you want to find something to do with your boys, you should really think about Boy Scouts.

 Trying something new for lunch:

My friend Brian owed me lunch so I picked out a new place.  (I normally drink a shake for lunch but who can turn down a free lunch?) It isn't new to Topeka, but it was new to me.  Wellers is located in North Topeka, 222 NW Independence.  It was a very cool restaurant/bar.  The food was very good and I plan on going back!!  If you haven't tried, Wellers, you should!

Guns & Roses Concert - My friend Frankie purchased these tickets 4 months ago! She invited me to go with her. The concert was on a Wednesday night so finding two more people to attend was not the easiest task but just 7 hours before show time, we had our final partner in crime! Frankie and I started out at Panzons on 87th street in Lenexa! They have good food and great margaritas! Our night started with buy one get one free margaritas and just got better from then on.  After dinner we headed to Brian's house and there we waited for Tom to arrive.  We then headed to Arrowhead stadium. The traffic was actually pretty good! We parked really close to Arrowhead! Our tickets were on the club level so we made our way to club level entrance. Here we started out with a beer. Alice in Chains played first.  Guns & Roses played for almost 3 straight hours! The energy in Arrowhead was amazing, the music was loud but AWESOME! I have not danced at a concert this much in a long time.  You couldn't help yourself! I went to this concert with no expectation and left amazed! Although we started planning this night 4 months ago, it wasn't until 7 hours before that we had a plan and last minute adventures always seem to be the best!  The perfect weather, perfect concert, perfect location, perfect friends made for the perfect night!

Dessert for lunch - I love desserts but it wasn't until we watch Cupcake Wars on Food network that Frankie wanted a cupcake before we went shopping! I rarely turn down dessert and since I started my holiday weekend early, I thought, why not!  So cupcakes for lunch it was!  It gave us the energy to do some shopping before we headed to dinner and back to Frankies for a lazy night watching Pitch Perfect 2! Looking back, I had an amazing June and can't wait to see what July has to bring!!  Be safe and peace out!
