2016 - August

ttn logoAugust, 2016: Welcome to my latest adventure!

Kim Schultz

How can July already be over! Oh wait, it was another non stop month! The heat was on and even though the month started out a little wet, it ended up being a really fun time!  I wasn't able to do everything that I was invited to! Summer is still my favorite time of the year! I just wish I could be outside more! We say good bye to July and HELLO to August! My calendar has already made me tired! Naps will need to be a must!  Have a great month!!

Don't forget to check the community calendar daily! We are constantly updating it with more fun things going on in Topeka!!

Kim's Excellent Adventures

Building A Business: Starting a business from the bottom up is not easy. Starting a business from the bottom up without money is even harder. It also takes a little longer to achieve since you are wearing all the hats!

Over 3200 new vistors have visited the site since it launched, with over 12,000 page views.  These numbers are important because if a company wants to support your website, you need traffic!! This is why sharing the website is important.  Most of the site is FREE to locally owned businesses. To keep it free, support from larger companies is important! If your company does a newsletter, please include the link and promote the site. Thanks for helping me share the site with family, friends and co-workers.

If you would like to support EverythingTopeka.com, here is how!

4th of July weekend: Due to rain and more chances of rain, the weekend didn't turn out as originally planned. The Guns and Roses concert sort of started the long weekend. There was no way, anything else we did could compare to the fun we had that night but we tried! I still got in my 5 mile walks most of the days.  We did some shopping while the weather was not cooperating. I used my gift card at the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and cheesecake! We also spent time at the pool and went to see Central Intelligence at Fork N Screen. The pool was awesome and the movie was funny!  For the first time in 7 years, I was in Topeka for the 4th of July! I spent the day with Kolton and his family.  I have never been to the Collins Park parade.  There were tons of people! We then ate lunch and celebrated Kolton's birthday.

The Red Couch: It has been over a year since I sat on the red couch! It was nice to be back in the studio with Ralph!  He is such a great guy to chat with!  Check out my interview:  http://www.wibw.com/content/news/New-online-venture-will-let-Topekans-know-everything-out-there-385926931.html

Not to forget that we lost power due to the storms at 4:30 am and it didn't come back on until midnight! We had poles that had been blown over! They had to replace the pole in my backyard. It also explains my hair!! Yikes!! Since I could not work Chelsea and I went to a movie. We love our Disney movies so this month we went to see Finding Dory! It was a cute show!

Kim ToesSummer Toes - You know how I love getting my pedicures.  This month Alex made them extra pretty!

Railroad Festival 2016: I am the captain for the kids tent. This year it was in July and it was very hot! Most of my scheduled volunteers didn't show up so I had to scramble to find help! I don't enjoy not being organized but we made it! If you say you are going to volunteer, please show up! It really makes for a stressful day when you say you will help and then don't show up!

Royals Game: Game #4 Can you say H.O.T.  This was girls night at the K.  We even got a ride to the stadium from the parking lot!!  The next day we did some shopping and then home.

We love our Disney movies so this month we went to see Finding Dory! It was a cute show!

Topeka Civic Theatre: The final show of the season always includes the dinner.  We also like to bring kids to let them enjoy the magic of theatre!  This year Jim and I brought Kolton and his friend Elliott and Paige and her friend Tristan. Dinner was good and then we walked around the theatre to keep the little ones entertained! All of the kids loved the show! Kolton had questions for some of the characters. Elliott was a bit shy but eventually she took pictures with some of them.

Let's Help: A few months ago I put in my notice that I would no longer be able to work at Let's Help.  I plan on staying to help but I believe they need someone there that can work more than one day a week.  So if you are fluent in Quickbooks and familiar with nonprofit accounting, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  I hate leaving, but I believe my website will end up taking more time and I don't want to leave them out in the cold! We are still looking for someone for this position!!!!!

Peopling: What the heck is peopling? Well, it is the word that my friend Frankie and I use that means we need to hang out with more people! It is really easy to become comfortable in your life but not completely happy. We both realized that we were not where we wanted to be in our lives when it comes to relationships. I do some peopling but I love meeting new people!  So you might be seeing new people and new adventures in the next few months! This night we met with a couple new friend at Saints Pub and then went to Hollywood Casino until 3:30am! That is a lot of peopling! The next day we went to Fork N Screen to see Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates.  It was a funny movie!

Meetings: Two more meetings this month! I hope to make an announcement soon!!

High School Friends Girls Night Out at the Movies: When was the last time you went to see a movie that started after 9pm.  Well my friends and I wanted to see Bad Moms and my friend Susan made plans for us to go on a Thursday night 9:50 showing! This movie was hilarious!! It is not for kids! It pushes the line and could offend people. I however found it hilarious!!  Such a good time with life long friends!!

Kolton's big Birthday Party-  Kolton had a few family birthday parties but this one was for his friends!!  They held it at the Sports Zone! The kids had a great time! His theme was Mindcraft.  A video game he likes to play. The kids enjoyed games, a taco bar and ice cream bar cake!

Soper's Birthday:  Bridget planned a little scavenger hunt for Mr. Soper! His first stop was at our friend Angela's house where JJ, Angela and I were waiting for him! We hung out for about an hour and then the next clue took him to the Goose.  Here they had a drink and the next clue took us to Pigskins.  Here we spent a couple hours. The next clue lead us to the 20s. Here is where we ended our night! (I was the DD so it was water for me but I still had a great time.)

Annual Ultimate Camping Trip! I look forward to this weekend every year! Camping was a big part of my childhood and I made sure to make it apart of my kids! Camping is a lot of work and life is just busy so I make sure we get to go at least once a year!  This year had to be the biggest one yet. It doesn't compare to our big outings with 50 people but it was nice seeing more people join us at the lake. This year we got to stay in my friend Tim's neighbor's motor home. This made the weekend even better. We found that having one person bring all the sit down meals saves everyone money. I always book the sites and bring the food! My Saturday night meal this year was Taco bar!  Sunday morning I always make a big breakfast! This year held some unexpected excitement. A storm rolled in for about 30 minutes and wrecked our lines. After the storm, a band took the stage and performed  Yes, I said a band took the stage in the middle of party cove and entertained about 280 boats full of people! Spending time with friends at the lake is always a great time.  Sunday we did have to move the fun to Jeff and Kandy's house to make breakfast due to another storm.

Using EverythingTopeka.com

This website is a prototype for an idea that I have been working on for ten years! It is continually changing and I hope to make this the main site for anyone that wants to find something in Topeka to use.

It is being built with those who live in Topeka and the surrounding area but not limited to them.

There are 4 sections to this website.

1. The Topeka Newsletter is the first part.  It is going through some major overhaul since most of the information can now be found in a better organized manner on the website.  This is free for any locally owned business to use to promote their business.

2. The Community Calendar is actually the most important part of this website, right now.  Each community should be informed on what is going on. This doesn't just mean the bar scene. When I say informed, I mean fundraisers, sports, daily food and drink specials, sales, entertainment, recreation and anything else going on.  This calendar tries to include anything that the public is invited to. There is no charge to include your events.  We enter all the events so it saves business owners time. They just need to send us the information and we will take it from there.

3. Everything Topeka is a plethora of information compiled in a map based program.  Here you can search and find different venues in different categories. You can pick one or all categories to search. This search will not find information that is not on the map though so you will need to use the website search function also. It is free to be listed with a simple profile and an affordable way to enhance your listing.

4. Everything Else is more businesses that are not listed in the Map feature. There is a guide page that actually will lead you in the right direction.  http://everythingtopeka.com/everything-topeka/all-categories  It is free to be listed with a simple profile and an affordable way to enhance your listing.

Searching EverythingTopeka.com

We have 2 different search bars.  We use a program called Hot Spot and it does not integrate with the rest of the website at this time.  So you will need to use both places if you can't find what you are looking for.  Search Articles option will search everything but the maps. It even includes the calendar.

Corporate Support is needed to make this website successful

How can corporate businesses help?

For this resource to be successful, corporate businesses need to appreciate the service and help financially support the website.  They can also include a link in internal emails to employees to keep them informed on the Topeka Community. We need to work together to not only keep the public informed but promote all the great things Topeka has to offer.

If you would like to find out how your business can help, please contact Kim Schultz!
